I plugged a headset cable into the empty jack during the setup process and Media Center finally recognized the IR Device and allowed me to proceed with the configuration.

Before attempting these steps, make sure that PC has been updated with all of the latest Windows updates. I’m pretty sure it’s just an external version of the same device. A faint red light should appear on the IR receiver.
I never needed to install any drivers. This Fix works right infraeed me. If the light appears, then the problem is probably in the software that is using the remote control most likely the configuration of the Media Center software.
A faint red light should also glow inside the IR receiver each time a button on the remote pressed.
